So you just bought a new Autel Scanner and you set it up and prepare to use it, but before you can do anything you get a display screen that says the device is locked? This trend has been growing recently and there could be two reasons why:
A) You Purchased From an Overseas Supplier
or
B) You Purchased a Stolen Device
The reason your device is locked is more than likely because of reason A.
Autel Authorized Distributors
Autel has “authorized distributors” all over the world. But recently online sellers, mostly in the European region, have been selling into regions and it’s affecting local vendor sells. This is decreasing their sells and so to counteract it, they’ve set up a restriction mechanism in the tools.
How does the restriction mechanism work?
Autel’s tool has a region code that is matched against the buyer’s IP address. If the IP address doesn’t fall into the authorized region that the device can be sold, the device locks itself.
Restricted Products
As of July 1, 2019, the following tables are subject to the IP restriction policy:
DS808
DS808BT
MS906
MS906TS
MS906BT
MS906CV
MS908CV
MS908S
MS908SP
MaxiCheck MX808
MaxiSys Elite
MaxiCheck MS808TS
IM508
IM608
MK808
MK808TS
MK808BT
MS908P/MK908P
MS908/MK908
TS608
Essentially, all of the tools now have the restriction. It is important to understand the distribution and make sure that you buy a device that is in your zone. There are 6 zones:
Asia Pacific
China
? IMEA (India, Middle East, Africa)
?Europe
? North America
? South America
In addition to checking the region, there are a few more guidelines that you should follow to reduce the risk involved when you purchase your tools.
Step 1 – Outline what’s important to you: Is it the lowest cost or the best quality? Is the origin of the tool very important to you? Sometimes finding the cheapest vendor can create more trouble than it’s worth with faulty or incorrect products. Do you have any special function requirements? Do you need a specific level of support?
Step 2 – Information stage: Some of the highest risk involved is during the information stage. Often people try to do self-diagnosis. Autel has over 47 tools out there and it’s hard to understand which tools you need and which ones you don’t. Consultants do that for you. In addition, they use general information that isn’t tailored to them. With a premium consultation, you will be given the best solution and strategy as wells as delivery and implementation.
Step 3 – Purchasing stage: Get the list you made in step 1 and interview the different businesses that sell the tools the professional consultant instructed you that you needed. If the business checks off on all of your requirements, that is a good match for you.
In summary, here is what you should do:
First, don’t purchase a tool from a business you don’t trust. Follow the purchasing guidelines to reduce the risk of having a costly experience. If your tool is locked even then, contact your supplier and see if they can resolve the issue. However, if you want to bypass all of the hurdles and loops and have
absolute certainty about what you are purchasing, book a consultation so I can put you on the right track.
